This book is a case study developed in a mining site, middle of Amazonia, Brazil. This book shows mine operation in a specific situation of Juruti mine in September 2015. It is essential to understand the strip mining method and how it have been done in Amazonia. The book focuses on the loading and hauling ore operation, simulating shovel and truck work to define the ideal number of trucks to use for each mining face. The comparative infield tests proves the simulation effectiveness. Before the simulation process, the literature review section provides the necessary information about the region where this work occurs. It is regarding a bauxite mine in the middle of a rain forest with its peculiarities, especially in terms of weather, geology and mining aspects.

This unique book presents innovative and state-of-the-art computational models for determining the optimal truck-loader selection and allocation strategy for use in large and complex mining operations. The authors provide comprehensive information on the methodology that has been developed over the past 50 years, from the early ad hoc spreadsheet approaches to today's highly sophisticated and accurate mathematical-based computational models. The authors' approach is motivated and illustrated by real case studies provided by our industry collaborators. The book is intended for a broad audience, ranging from mathematicians with an interest in industrial applications to mining engineers who wish to utilize the most accurate, efficient, versatile and robust computational models in order to refine their equipment selection and allocation strategy. As materials handling costs represent a significant component of total costs for mining operations, applying the optimization methodology developed here can substantially improve their competitiveness

I, Ntombini Avela Sbabalwe student number 213180367, solemnly declare that this research paper entitled ASSESSING THE IMPACTS OF ILLEGAL SAND MINING: A CASE STUDY OF MBIZANA LOCAL MUNICIPALITY, EASTERN CAPE, SOUTH AFRICA, is my original work and all sources used or quoted in the study have been indicated and acknowledged by way of complete references. This study dealt with socio-economic and environmental issues pertaining to illegal sand mining in Mbizana. It transpired that illegal sand miners are extracting sand excessively without considering the impact on the environment. Such situation imposed serious impacts such as soil erosion, formation of gullies, clearance of vegetation, and land degradation. There are more than 120 trucks that extract sand per day, each truck driver take about 3 to 5 loads per day.
